This event originally came about in 2007, when a female Sheriff's Deputy with a local law enforcement agency was critically injured in a freak automobile accident where she worked. I decided to organize an event that was galactic in proportion, and that would raise a great deal of money to help her with her medical expenses. Needless to say, this event was a great success. We had over 30 members in Star Wars costumes, mingling and having fun with over 500 guests that came to this event. When the event was over, we tallied up the money and were able to present over $4,000.00 in cash, to the brother of the injured deputy.
Several days after the event I spoke with the general manager of Funland (John Reis), and came up with the idea of making this a yearly event. We held the event again in 2008 at Funland, and raised over $3,800 which was donated to three children suffering from Leukemia. A few months later Funland closed it's doors and we were forced to find another place to continue our yearly fundraiser. Shortly after "The Spaceport" opened it's doors, I spoke with the owner (Erick Lewko) and he agreed to allow us to hold our event there. Hopefully this year and the many years to come, we will be able to continue to raise money for worthy charities around our region.
